Here is a great example of a 1980s wedding showing the hair and fashion of that time. The bride is in white, the bridesmaids are in a light purple, the flower girl is in a lavender, and the groomsmen are all in light gray tuxes. This was early in the decade and bi-level hairstyles were popular for both men and women. Poodle perms were also all the rage. If you had naturally curly hair, you were in luck, otherwise, you had to make a trip to the salon for a perm.

Here is a close-up view of this bridesmaid's hairdo as it shows how the sides were cut above the ears and the back was left longer. This cut made it easier to get that lift that was necessary to create  "big hair" with the top layers being shorter for fullness at the crown.

This woman has more of that typical poodle look.

The bride was a little bit stuck in the 70s with feathered sides but did sport the bi-level.

And…..this young man shows the fact that both sexes followed pretty much the same style only possibly shorter and straighter if one lacked the natural bend in the tresses. Many males actually visited their hairdresser to get a perm and sometimes it was just done in the back.

Charlize Theron is sporting a short wavy bob here in this photo of her taken at the event: Good Morning America Taping Promoting her New Movie "Sleepwalking" on March 13th 2008. We love the care-free look of this fun and feminine hairdo. To get this style for yourself, smooth out the top layers while blow-drying with a paddle brush and then use a diffuser while scrunching and spiraling with fingers on the lower half. A narrow flat iron can be used to touch up the waves by holding it vertically and winding sections around it in a spiral motion. A defining hair product on palms can be used to help with the styling once the strands are dry. Do not brush through locks but rather use fingers to prevent a frizzy appearance.

Charlize was born in South Africa and is now an American actress and former fashion model. She won an Academy Award for her part in the movie "Monster."

The 1960s flip hairstyle was a popular fashion statement for that decade. Women with shoulder length hair could easily curl the ends up and out for a fun and sassy look. The early 60s brought about the bouffant which could be incorporated into this style as we see here in this photograph taken in about 1968. An off center part gives way to a bang-less forehead. The top back portion is back combed and smoothed over to add lift and fullness. For how to information on how they got that bouffant, check out that link.

Men in this time period generally had short hair on the sides and it was cut above the ears. A heavy bang was in and a full head of hair was fashionable. The Beatles started this bangy hairdo that was adopted by many guys of the younger generation.

This picture shows a 1920's woman with a rather modern and edgy updo from that era.

1920s Updo

This hairdo was accomplished with short curly hair. The sides are left down and hair is brushed upward toward the center top where bobby pins are used to secure the mass. The way that the hair is pulled up creates a look of full bangs on the forehead. The tresses on the sides are curled around forward just in front of the ears.

Jeweled accessories could have been used to dress the look up a bit more for formal events. This is a great example of vintage charm. A pretty blouse with pleats and a dainty necklace top off the look.

The 1920's were a time of many changes for women and hairstyles drastically changed from the long traditional looks to short and risky styles.

This is my grandmother who had strawberry blonde hair which of course you cannot tell as this photo is black and white. She had very fine hair as well with some natural curl to it. She used pin curls to create her styles. Bobby pins were placed on wet hair and then gently brushed out when dry.

The 1970s were a carefree time as we see here with these two teenagers. Boy's hair was fluffy and long and natural. Girl's hair was normally straight or slightly curled. Bangs were fashionable. These haircuts are obviously not in the quality range, but back then, it was difficult to find good stylists.

Make-up was minimal for teens. Mascara and blush along with lip gloss was about it. Eyelash curlers were used and if eye shadow was used, it was light blue.

Cute little tee shirts were in and so were pulse jeans. They were waist high and pocket-less.
