These three young ladies are posing in the front yard of this vintage picture. They are sisters and the one in the middle is holding a baby. They all have short hair that is styled in simple and traditional ways. They are wearing cropped blouses and A line skirts that hit at knee length. Their shoes have laces and they are wearing anklet socks. The one on the left is holding her hands in front of her and her one knee is bent for a feminine model-type pose.

This is my grandmother although I never did meet her. Clearly she was a character as she is dressed here in a grass skirt and strapless bra.

There is story behind this crazy looking costume. The era was the 1940's and her oldest son had been shipped overseas to Hawaii to help with the aftermath of Pearl Harbor. He wanted to send home a gift to his mother and something that had the true flavor of tropical island life. The skirt is gathered around her waist and flows down past her knees. She is also sporting a flower lei around her neck that comes down past her waist. A flower on the side of her hair is the perfect accessory for this outfit.

We have two couples standing at the center dressed in long gowns that are not white and holding big bouquets of flowers. The women are next to each other and the men are at their sides and they are surrounded by a large party of ladies also holding flowers. This is staged like a wedding photo with two rows of folks and some are standing in the rear while those in the front are sitting. Their ages vary from about 20's to 50's. The gals are sporting typical hairdos of this decade with most being short and curled. Early in the 50's the styles were still usually following the trends from the 1940's which showcased Victory Rolls and cascading curls.
