I remember the holidays in the early 70s when the adults were still stuck in the 60s like we see here with the bouffant. The adults are usually a decade or so behind on the current styles, but stick around because the styles always come around again with a few new twists. All different types of retro are in today.

If you would like to see how they got those bouffants then check here.

And, to see some celebrities who incorporate this hairdo in their fashion statements, check out Bree Williamson, Hilary Duff, and Jessica Simpson.

Here is a very cute short hairstyle for a little girl. This would be easy care with the addition of some layering by the hairstylist. A thin headband accessory makes this feminine and stylish.

Women golfers in the early 70s show the hairstyles that older ladies wore during this time period and the fashions. The gal in the middle is sporting the left over 60s bouffant while the other two just have short no care hair. Skirts were popular in primary colors and patterns such as geometric. Purses were not much of a fashion statement as we can see, but those Mr. Magoo big sunglasses were very popular.

Hilary Duff is sporting a popular Hollywood trendy hairstyle that is full of loose curls. Many of the celebrities can be seen lately with similar hairdos. They are steering away from the stick straight look of days gone by for a more feminine appeal with soft twists that be easily created with a medium to large barrel curling iron held vertically while winding sections around at least three times. This helps to get that spiral effect. Hair is parted in the middle with no bangs and the top portion is smoothed down to about eye level. Her honey blonde highlights contrast with the darker shades to add depth. Making sure that the locks are not the same tone as the skin will decrease the chance of looking washed out. This young beauty has chose some dark eye shadows for a dramatic theme here while the lips are a pale pink.

This picture of Hilary was taken at Allure Magazine's "Most Alluring Bodies" Benefit for Cancer Research on May 7th 2008.

This photo from 1972 shows the hair and fashions that one might see at a family Christmas gathering. The pre-teen on the left has a haircut that was called a fluorantine. It was a variation of the shag but a little different. It was layered, had bangs, and was about shoulder length or just past. This was a time when the long, straight, and no-style hair was the most popular but some just did not look that great in that 'do. The younger girl has a simple bob. The older woman in the doorway is sporting the bouffant which was on its way out but some preferred to hang onto to this look for awhile longer.

As for the fashions, sweater vests, suit jackets for men, and long sleeve button up shirts were the thing. Notice the red pumps in the background which was a festive shoe color for the holidays.

Apparently, smoking in the house was acceptable back then too.
