Hair and Fashion 70s Style for the Holidays

This photo from 1972 shows the hair and fashions that one might see at a family Christmas gathering. The pre-teen on the left has a haircut that was called a fluorantine. It was a variation of the shag but a little different. It was layered, had bangs, and was about shoulder length or just past. This was a time when the long, straight, and no-style hair was the most popular but some just did not look that great in that 'do. The younger girl has a simple bob. The older woman in the doorway is sporting the bouffant which was on its way out but some preferred to hang onto to this look for awhile longer.
As for the fashions, sweater vests, suit jackets for men, and long sleeve button up shirts were the thing. Notice the red pumps in the background which was a festive shoe color for the holidays.
Apparently, smoking in the house was acceptable back then too.
