Here we have a charming photo from the early 1950's of two young men probably brothers looking rather dashing in their period clothes.

Brothers of the 1950's

They both have wavy hair that is short on the sides. Being clean cut meant having no strands touching the ears or collar. The top of their styles is longer to allow for some styling with products that keep things in place. They both have side parts with full heads of thick hair.

They are wearing suit jackets and pleated pants. One of them has a short wide tie with a tie clip. The other one is wearing a round neck shirt with horizontal stripes.

They are standing in front of car that has wide whitewall tires which was all the rage back then. They were an upgrade from the regular black tires but they were all the rage back then. People often posed in front of their vehicles as they were quite the prized possession.

I wonder what they two were up on this day back in 1952. Maybe they were home for the holidays and mom and dad wanted a shot of them together. Or maybe they were headed out for a night on the town. The one on the left looks a bit mischievous and the one on the right looks mysterious plus he has the downward sad puppy eyes.

Here's a style wave for ya if you want something a little edgy with a twist of 80's with currently trendy.

grunge rocker

Let's start with the hairdo which is pulled back into a single braid that sits at the top of the crown. It sits high on the head and dangles down the back like a ponytail. All strands are pulled straight back for a slicked back appearance. The braid itself is narrow rather than bushy. You can tell this model has relatively fine hair and the end of the braid is quite thin.

The color theme of her garb is bright royal blue. Her long skirt is made of a netted material and has long slits. The black waistband sits high at the natural waist. Her top is cropped and hits at the midriff. Her lipstick is dark blue for the look of death. How perfect for an outing to a death metal concert.

The gladiator wedge shoes make the outfit much more modern trendy. These will be the look of Spring 2014.

Authentic photograph from 1979 of a young lady with a typical feathered hairstyle from that time period.

1979 Hair

Hair is shoulder length. Bangs are relatively short and textured with layers that allow the "feathered" effect. They are rolled under with a curling iron and then brushed to the side. The sides are curled toward the back and gently directed toward the back with a brush. Only light hold hairspray was used if at all as this was before the days of the 80's when shellac-like spray was used to create a monument that didn't move. These styles were made to give the look of movement. The strands were cut in a way that they could basically fall into place.

A big cowl neck sweater in pink wool with cable knit was quite the thing. She was probably wearing San Fransisco Riding Gear jeans.

This was certainly before the heavy make-up of the decade to come.

Whether you are looking for something beautiful and feminine or something a little bit more fun and sassy take a look at these choices. Valentines Day is typically for lovers but that does not need to be the case. It could be a great day to celebrate loving yourself and being happy with being you.

Orchid Hairstyle

This style above shows lovely healthy locks that are long and flowing. The color is a berry brunette with that hint of red. How appropriate is that? She has an orchid placed on one side and a middle part with no bangs. Her eye make-up compliments the colors.

Black Beauty

This lovely black beauty is wearing her hair in its natural curly state with sides being short enough to show dangle earrings. This is a great way to show off some lovely jewelry appropriate for the occasion.

Woman with Gift Box

A relaxed style for a casual and spontaneous celebration calls for something easy and simple. Pull all strands back into a high ponytail with a scrunchy or ribbon. Her are some fun homemade options to check out by etsy.

back view updo

And here we have a back view of a pretty woven bun placed just above the nape of the neck. Sections of hair are intertwined and tucked into a neat bun. What a lovely updo for a special occasion.

bouffant updo

This one is seriously formal and edgy with a touch of retro as the height of this is extreme. Some serious strong hold products and back combing are necessary for the lift needed here. This young woman has dirty blonde locks and deep red lipstick.

1950's Curly Updo

This one is full of bleach blonde curls and the disheveled nature adds a touch of whimsy. The back is brown up into an updo. One distinct pin curl is placed in the middle of the forehead.

Oh this is so cute. This little gal has two pigtails that are left in their naturally curly state.

Cute Pigtails

Her strands are parted in the middle and each side is slicked down close to the scalp and secured into a ponytail. Allowing them to frizz a little just adds to the charm and makes the style super fun.
