Many pictures from the 1940s 1950s 1960s 1970s to help with your search for vintage hairstyles and other helpful information from that time period.

This is a wonderfully vintage hairstyle that features long hair that is styled into a fun and beautiful partial updo.

Vintage Partial Updo

This model is looking over her shoulder with a very mischievous look on her face which was very typical of magazine ad models during the 1940's and 1950's. As for her hairdo, the one side is pulled up and over toward the other side and secured for a roll effect. The bangs are directed to the side with a twist. The length is done up in defined spirals that have a corkscrew look. Here are some spiral irons that I found when I did a search on Amazon.

This one looks like it came straight from the 1940's with the shape and style of this medium length cut.

A deep side part is a focal point with the bangs being pulled up and over the forehead where there is a bend up above the eye on the other side. It almost looks the back is contained in a hairnet and it also has the look of a partial updo but it just seems to just be curled under. She has dark brown hair that is a nice compliment to her olive skin tone. Her party dress has lots of glitz and sparkle with sequins.

Here we have a man wearing finds from the local thrift shop that make for a trendy hippie look.

Hippie Thrift Store Style

This guy has a multi-colored scarf wrapped around his head with the tails coming down over one shoulder. Aviator sunglasses sit on top of his head and have reflective lenses. His long waves are typical of the flower child era. His big turquoise sun pendant necklace represents the environment. His white eyelet shirt is certainly something a woman donated once upon a time but what the heck, it's recycled. And of course flashing the peace sign is part of the whole fashion statement.

Women of this era had such a feminine and romantic look! Check out this vintage photo taken in the mid 1940's.

Hair was typically cut to shoulder length and curls were a must. Rollers and pin curls did the trick for styling. This gal has medium brown tresses with the sides brushed back away from the face. There is a small tuft above the forehead that winds around in a swirl. Bobby pins keep the sides neat and tidy and close to the scalp. Then at about ear level the soft curls grow in volume and fullness.

This is an authentic photograph of a young woman taken in the 1930's. She has a typical bob hairstyle from that era and is wearing a plain skirt and blouse.

1930's Woman

Her hair is cut short right at about ear level. The part is on the side and the bangs are pulled over to the side and held in place with a clip. The bottom is curled with rollers that would have been set with wet locks and normally this would have taken place in the evening so that in the morning they could be removed and styled. Her top is short sleeve and conservative with it being buttoned to the top. The collar is tidy and starched. The skirt is pleated and full at the bottom and hits way past the knees. This was most likely the late 30's. Anklets were her choice to go with her plain white shoes. Her watch is small and dainty.
