1950's Couple

The man is wearing a suit and tie and has slicked back short dark hair while the woman is dressed in a party gown. Her dress has netted fabric in layers that is floor length and the skirt portion is full. Her hairstyle is short and curly and very typical of this era. Women traded their longer glam curls for shorter and more conservative locks in the 50's. These two are sitting on a couch ready to attend a wedding. The coffee table is full on contemporary.

What did little girls of the 1930's wear and how was their hair cut?

1930's Girls

This is an endearing photo from about 1933 showing two siblings standing with their arms around one another. They both have bobs, one is straight and one is curly. The girl on the right has bangs with a length that hits just past the ears. This short style was very popular during this era as women were entering the workforce in numbers and wanted an easy care cut. The kids were given the same haircuts which saved time and energy. They are wearing sun suits that were typically one piece and these have halter tops that synch up at the neck. The bottom half is like shorts with full and loose legs.

There is something very romantic about a WWII couple and this vintage photo shows a US Army Air Force crewman with his sweetheart while home on leave.

1940's WWII couple

This is my aunt and uncle so I know the story. This man was a tail gunner on a B17 bomber during WWII. He came home on one leave during his deployment and this photo was taken at that time. He is wearing his military uniform and has his arm around his young wife who is wearing her hair in a classic pin up style. Her hair is dark, full of curls, and shoulder length. The top has height while the sides are bobby pinned close to the scalp to give the appearance of a partial updo. It was common for women of this era to wear a simple white blouse and a patterned print skirt that has a wide waist band and pleats. The length is to the knee. Her shoes lace up and bobby socks were fashionable.

Women in the 1950's wore conservative dresses and skirts, fairly short and curly hair, and pumps to work.

All of these women have short brunette hair. The sides are kept shorter and the ears are exposed.  The woman on the left has a straight style in a pixie cut. Her bangs are short and full. Two women are wearing black framed cat eye glasses. Their dresses are plain and simple for the most part except for the one on the right side and she has a patterned print. The length of their dresses is just past the knee. Pumps with heels were standard. The gentleman who is sitting on the left is wearing a suit and bow tie.
