If you are a girl who likes the vintage inspiration of the feminine hairstyles from the 1940s, then you may want to consider a very feminine updo idea for long straight hair. The vintage looks of the 1940s were ever so glamorous.

Vintage Inspiration

Start by taking locks of hair on both sides of your head and starting at the temple, roll the locks towards your head while at the same time roll them back. While you are rolling incorporate more locks of hair until you have added all of your hair. At the back of the head, fold the hair up and secure it with bobby pins. To add a touch more glamor, add a couple of barrette studded with rhinestones to the back of your hair. The rolls of hair in the back should hang gently  down to just touch the bottom of your neck. This is a wonderfully feminine vintage hairstyle perfect for prom.

An up to date trendy look for your special event would include the use of some hair accessories. The hair accessory we will use here is a headband. This look is best with long hair that has been straightened. Hair is pulled back into a low ponytail and looks great with or without bangs. Bangs should be brushed to the side.

This great prom hairstyle starts with straightened hair that has been back combed at the back of the crown of the head. This will add height to the back of the hair. Now carefully comb the top layer of hair smooth and at the same time, pull hair back into a low ponytail that is secured at the nape of the neck. Choose a narrow headband that matches your dress and place it high on the head. A headband that contrasts the color of your hair will stand out more and add that extra sizzle power. For shorter hair, you too can use a headband accessory to spice up your look. A bob hairstyle works well and one that is shorter in the back and longer in the front works well with the addition of a headband. You could experiment with wide and narrow headbands and different colors as well until you find the look you are after.

If you have curly or wavy hair then you are right in with the hair trends for this season. To accentuate your natural waves or curls, start with a curl enhancing shampoo and conditioner. Blow dry hair using a diffuser and your hands to scrunch hair into place. A tourmaline flat iron like the T3 which has rounded ends that works great for curls and waves can be used to define more curl or wave. Do this with a rocking motion back and forth while moving the iron down the hair shaft. Make sure to practice this with the iron off until you get the hang of it. A curling iron or hot roller set can work well too. Use the fingers to gently style when finished. Hair can be worn down with the addition of a few hair accessories like barrettes. Another variation would be to pull back locks of hair from either side of the head and secure in the back.

Remember to practice your hairstyle well in advance of your big prom night. Nothing worse than last minute difficulities and no time to deal with them.

Have fun searching for the right prom hairstyle for you and above all, have fun at your prom.
