This is a very charming photograph taken in the 1940's of a father, young son, and baby daughter.

They are dressed in their Sunday best as they pose for a shot in the yard. A white picket fence, bare winter-like trees, and simple houses serve as the backdrop. The dad is crouched down and holding the baby up as she stands there with her dress and bonnet. Brother is probably about six years old and is showing off a sweet little smirk.

Both men and boy have slicked back hair which is quite typical for this time period. A side part was common as well. The sides are cut short to expose the ears and this was considered to be masculine. The little guy is wearing a light colored double breasted suit and the older male is wearing a dark one.

I love this photo and it is from the early 40's. I used iPhone apps to edit it and add a touch of color.

The side swept hairstyle is still hot and one to choose for any special event or for everyday and check out Eva Universe with a single long big braid.

Big Braid

The top half of this 'do is disheveled and very imperfect which adds to the charm. A side part and variation in shades of blonde decorate the crown section. If one did not have the length to support such a style, a braided hairpiece might an option. It would be easy to just pin it on and go.

If you are looking for a big bun updo that sits high on the top of the head and mushrooms out to make a bold statement, check out Eva Longoria at 12th Annual Padres Contra El Cancer's "El Sueno De Esperanza" Gala.

Her rich brown hair color is a nice compliment to her olive skin tone and dark eyes. She is wearing a simple white gown with choice cut outs.

Here's a great example of a fun updo for a more mature woman that incorporates rows of micro braids.

The process may involve using hair extensions to add volume to each section. Merry Karnowski has pulled her locks back and attached them at the back of head into a bun for the Launch LA Galleries Exhibition in Los Angeles on September 29, 2012.

Here is another view to see the side and rear.

This style looks somewhat like a partial updo with one side being swept up and pinned up in the back with the other side hangs down in a wavy bob.

If you looking for something a bit different for that party or special occasion, this one could fit the bill. It's edgy and different yet pretty and feminine. The long bangs are pulled over to the side and clipped into place with a decorative accessory. The waves are scrunched into place with fingers while drying with a diffuser. Here is a shot showing the pulled up side.

The event for this one is 50th Annual New York Film Festival – Opening Night Gala – "Life of Pi"
