Hayden Panettiere looks smashing here in her pretty updo that would be great for any formal event or party. With the Holidays right around the corner, hairstyle ideas can be quite helpful. Christmas and New Years are a time of get togethers and sometimes a nice no fuss do is elegant. This picture of one of our favorite young women was taken at a Los Angeles Gala on 11/12/2007. She is all dressed up in a sweet black dress. The updo is simple and easy to style with the messy bun placed on the side. The silky straight bangs are long and graduate down to the chin and are brushed to one side. Her make -up is not over-done and has emphasis on the eyes with some black liner.

If you are looking for sexy hair and accessory ideas for a costume party, take a look here. This couple is perfect for a masquerade. Her hair is long and curly with a beaded headband that has dangles that drape over the forehead as well as feathers. Her make-up is very festive as well. Her man is wearing a decorative masque and a tie.

Here is a typical example of styles from the 50's. Hair was conservative for the most part and so were the fashions.

Mother and Daughter

These were the post war years and most women stayed home while the men worked to support the family. This mother and daughter have a short and wavy hairstyle that is parted on the side and coaxed into gentle waves. Wearing curlers to bed was common and then in the morning hair was brushed into place. Hairstyles were typically short enough to show the bottom of the ears. This was simple and easy to maintain.

Short pants were called peddle pushers and the teenage girl has her pants rolled up at the bottom to hit right at the knee. Button up plaid shirts were popular and so were sweater that were pushed up at the elbow.

If you are on the hunt for a rockin' rocker hairstyle, then you must see Steven Tyler with his long 70's hairstyle. This picture of him was taken at an event to donate memorabilia to the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida on 12/7/2007. His layered and feathered locks are highlighted to add dimension to this retro look. He has dark brown hair with an artistic flair which is accomplished with the addition of copper color highlights and accessories such as feathers and colored braids added to dangle down each side. These decorations are clipped into place and help to showcase his Native American (Cherokee) descent. He is sporting one of his trademark scarves wrapped around his neck and he usually takes that scarf and hangs it from his mic as he performs. He is wearing a plain white shirt with black vest and his neck wrap is an animal print.

Steven Tyler was also very popular in the 80's during the hair band era with his group Aerosmith. The music of this time is back and sought after by teenagers and young people today.

If a pretty updo is what you are after, then check this one out. The bangs are brushed over to the side and are gently curled into soft ringlets. To give some balance and interest, some strands are pulled out on the opposide side and curled as well. Hair is smooth and straight otherwise. For ideas for the back of the head take a look below:
