Looking for a great way to turn a bob hairstyle into a retro hairdo? Here is a cute look using a headband. This is a very short version of this time-less and popular "do." Hair is cut at chin length and bangs are cut straight across just hitting the eyebrow and then graduating slightly at the sides. This is a great style for a narrow face bringing width to it. The strands on the top are back combed with the top layer smoothed over to get the look of a bouffant and then a wide headband is placed. What a great way to turn a simple bob into a retro 60's look.

Women of the 60's who wanted a more conservative version of the big bouffant opted for a tamed down puffy hairdo like this one. In the 40's and 50's many gals pulled their locks up in the back and this practice carried over to the 60's for some. Ratting the top portion and then smoothing over the top layer gave height as we see here and then the back was secured into an updo. Lots of Aquanet hairspray was used to keep those strands in place.

This picture shows a good view of the top and back portion of a pretty updo. There are rows that are twisted as they pull up and back and are secured with covered bobby pins before they are brought together in a ponytail high on the crown. The pieces are then randomly curled around and attached to the head to give the appearance of a messy bun.

Here is a very pretty updo hairstyle that also allows the hair to trail down the back in soft loose curls. The front and sides are pulled up and back and secured into place with bobby pins to hold the style. Some back combing on the top adds height and fullness in which to work with. The strands that are left hanging down are curled using a large barrel curling iron. Wind the peices around the outside of the barrel in a spiral motion. A curl enhancing product will help and then do not brush through but rather use the fingers to separate. There is no veil with the style and this is a nice idea for an outside afternoon wedding. This is a picture showing a young bride with her groom and her lovely bouquet of red roses.

This nice partial udpo would be lovely for another formal event such as prom or other school dance as welll.

This original photograph came from our archives and has a great example of a flapper girl 1920's hairstyle.

The Marcel wave was still very popular and in 1910  women began cutting their hair short as a new sign of freedom from their corsettes and the beginning of a new trend for young ladies entering into the workforce. The Louise Brooks bob was the most famous hairstyle of the 20's. Vintage looks are gaining popularity in today's fashions. It is fun to look at old photos for inspiration.
