As the 80's passed to the end of that decade and turned toward the 90's, the big hair was still alive but it changed just a little bit. The classic 1980s puffy top 'do was about to be put to rest, but the fluff was not yet dead. The gradual transition from top heavy to bottom heavy was taking shape. This picture of a bunch of girlfriends from that era (pic was taken around 1989) shows a variety of hairstyles, but they have one thing in common: curly locks. It looks like there are a couple of examples of mall bangs here like the gal on the upper left and right.
