If you are looking for a lovely long formal hairstyle that can be worn down, take a look at this one. This young woman has a straight feathered hairdo that is reminiscent of decades gone by (late 70s) and looks glamorous with this simple style. Using a large round brush and blow-dryer it would be easy to create this look as you would point the dryer in a downward motion as you run the brush under the sections. Next, direct the air toward the back while brushing the side in the same direction. Having some layers cut into locks is important to help achieve that feathered appearance.
Here is a funny 70s picture of a pre-teen sporting a typical hairstyle for that time as well as an example of some of the fashions for that time. A long granny style skirt that looks like a bedspread and the top looks like something from the 1800's with puffy short sleeves and gathered round neck. Obviously shoes were an after thought as blue and red tennis shoes are hardly appropriate but comfortable. This 12 year old's hair is long and straight and parted on the side with a clip holding the bangs over to the side. Using clips was very popular in the early 1970s to hold the hair out of the eyes as no-style hairstyles were cool during this time. Notice the furnishings like the television on the right (that had no remote as children were the channel changers) and the early American decor. The carpet and curtains were a brownish gold color.

The mid 1980s was a time of big hair and spiral perms that resembled something you would see on a poodle. Curly locks were definitely in and here is a picture of a women sporting a pretty good likeness.

If you are looking for something a little way out there and funky for an updo, then take a gander at this crazy thing. What is it? That is the question. Hair is pulled tight to the head and then a smooth loose bun is placed right at the forehead and over to one side. This gal has a couple of small ice cream cones placed on top. I suppose you could put whatever you want up on top. This is certainly one that will stand out in the crowd.

For those who like lots of tight small waves, this hairstyle is a beautiful example. The top is pulled up into a partial updo that is secured at the top of the crown. This model has a rich medium brown hair color with some golden chestnut highlights which add more depth to this style. This look would be easy to copy by braiding the locks while wet and allowing to dry. Next, remove the braids and gently brush through from underneath. Another method would be to use a diffuser and scrunch while drying if one had naturally curly strands. If you have straight hair, you may be able to get a similar look by using a narrow flat iron on a dry mane and rocking it back and forth while sliding it down the section.
