If a little vintage is in order, take a look at this picture of a 1920's woman with a short bob with side swept bangs and curly ends.

Vintage Bob

The part is placed way over to one side and the top is swooped over. The curls are big a puffy but just concentrated on the bottom third and the rest is smooth and straight. The length is just below ear level and up off of the shoulder. Pin curls were most likely used to create the look on the sides.

Lauren Conrad wears casual waves very well as we see her here in this picture taken at the 19th Annual "A Time for Heroes" Celebrity Carnival in June of 2008. She has a long light brown mane with butterscotch highlights. She has an off center part and is bang-less. Hair is smooth down to about chin level where they transition to gentle and loose waves which can be accomplished by winding sections around a large barrel curling iron and then pulling the curls apart with fingers. You only need to do a few.

She is wearing a white summer dress with several gold chain necklaces which is a retro 70s look.

Cheryl Burke proves that is it possible to have a cute hairstyle even with fine thin hair. She wears a side part with side swept bangs that fit in nicely with the rest of her locks. The length is short to medium length and just touches her shoulders. There are some slight layers to help the strands just fall into place and this is especially important for her as she dances with the stars. Styling is easy with a vent brush and blow dryer. Her gentle highlights add dimension and depth.

It is important to find a good hairstylist at a professional salon who specializes in cutting fine hair.

Here she is again with another similar version.

Here's bridal hairstyle for a woman who likes something a bit edgy, bold, and different. This gal has sharply contrasting stripes of color throughout her hair that consists of alternating dark brown and bleach blonde. She is wearing it up in a partial updo. The sides are pulled back and secured while the back is cured into spirals. She is wearing a jeweled tiara for the princess look. The bangs are flat iron straight. The colors of this wedding are white and hot pink.

Here's a modern teen boy's hairstyle with a hint or two of retro. The bangs are long, heavy, and brushed to one side which is reminiscent of the 60's. The sides are cut at about mid ear while the back is longer but not down to the collar and this is considered a bi-level which is from the 80's. The textured look makes this haircut new and up to date.
