This bob brushes just at the shoulder with soft layers around the bottom. The bangs are styled to the side with a little wave. This style looks nice with a strapless dress and is a nice option for a short to mid length hairstyle worn down for a special occasion.

Amanda has great blonde locks that curl back nicely into rolls on each side.

Her bang-less 'do is smooth at the top with a center part and the each side section is twisted toward the back for a retro 70's appeal. A style like this could be accomplished using a large barrel curling iron held vertically while winding sections around it, on completely dry strands of course.

One side is pinned back behind the ear while the other comes down and brushes the cheek.

Wondering what retro girl scout uniforms and hairdo's looked like?
1950's Girl Scouts

1950's Girl Scouts

These two girls are about 10 years old and they are sporting the typical uniform for back then which was a shirt dress that buttoned down the front with a belt and bow tie. The one on the right has a pixie cut and the one on the left has some waves and soft curls around the bottom. Bobbie socks and Mary Janes completed the outfit.

In my opinion, this book by Lauren Rennells is fabulous.

Vintage Hairstyling

Vintage Hairstyling

Women of the 1930's, 1940's, and 1950's, generally wore their hair with waves and curls. These bends in their strands matched the naturally curvy nature of a woman's body which was considered to be very feminine and sexy. Many modern gal's are turning to the past for inspiration for their own hairstyles. Many celebrities are donning these retro looks as well: Reese Witherspoon, Katy Perry, and Madonna to name a few.

This book is full of pictures and step by step instructions to help get famous styles such as the Pompadour, Victory Rolls, The Scarf Roll, Bang Wave, The Chignon, and many variations of these plus so much more. There are sequential pictures that are numbered with corresponding written "how to" notes. There are instructions on how to use sponge and Velcro rollers, how to make pin curls, and how to use heated tools.

There is a section on accessories such as flowers, barrettes, scarves, and so on. Also vintage hats were important back then and the author touches on that as well.

Our mothers, grandmothers, and great grandmothers used different techniques than we do today just because of the fact that they did not have many of our modern conveniences, and the book breaks down these old fashioned ways of doing things and gives today's options to achieve the same look.

When the locks are all styled beautifully, one might want some make-up tips and those are covered too. Winged eyeliner and red lips are a must for the full effect and of course these are included.

This book is fun and very inspiring. I think it would be perfect for anyone looking for feminine vintage appeal and especially if troubles with styling have been encountered. Brides would find many ideas here as well as girls preparing for prom, and actually, it would be great for any female looking to add a little glamor.
