A very popular trend during the 1970's involved the addition of a headband as a focal point and here are some great examples for you to check out.

This first one shows a young lady with smooth strands and a tiny bit of height at the top of the crown. She has long bangs that are swept to the side and left loose out of the band. Hers is white and wide. The ends of her tresses have a slight bend at the bottom.

Headband Girl

This one is pretty with a red and white patterned headband. She has used a form ( hair bump foam ) underneath the hump on top for more height and perfect for the 60's / 70's look. She has pulled her bangs back and tucked them under the headband. Her locks are full of soft curls.

This one uses a very wide headband that covers much of the crown and using a super stretchy material provides more comfort. This one is knit or crocheted but does not look handmade. This model has shorter hair and bangs that are slightly brushed to the side.

Short Hairstyle with Headband

This is a perfect hairstyle for a long and narrow face.

Beth Behrs Attends Philadelphia Style Magazine Holiday Issue Cover Party at Trust in Philadelphia - December 19, 2013

Beth Behrs has full bangs that are cut straight across. This gives a deliberate horizontal line that brings the eye out to outer borders of her face to give the impression of a wider canvas. The top area around the crown is straight and smooth and then the transition to curls begins at about eye level. Big spirals dangle on each side of the face and have a bit of a vintage feel. There is no part and the bangs are deep set. The color is blonde with highlights and lowlights. Quite a bit of depth and brightness with this one.

The event is the Philadelphia Style Magazine Holiday Issue Cover Party at Trust in Philadelphia – December 19, 2013.

Oh yes this is nice choice for a young business professional or distinguished man.

"David Beckham" Book Signing at Waterstone's in London on December 19, 2013

His light brown or dirty blonde locks are finger combed into place. The strands are left a bit longer so they can be styled into place with some wet look hair products. His unshaven face, or 5 day old beard, adds a touch of bad boy.

This photo comes from "David Beckham" Book Signing at Waterstone's in London on December 19, 2013. This 38 year old football icon had at least 700 fans waiting outside the doors before they opened. The first 500 were the lucky ones who actually got to meet him.

How about a nice bleach blonde updo that is reminiscent of the 50's when many women opted for a short hairstyle with curls or in this case…….

1950's Curly Updo

an updo that gives the impression of a short hairstyle.

The back of the locks are pulled up and secured off the neck and shoulders. The top is arranged in a disheveled manner with big loose curls that are defined and springy. One big curl is front and center on the forehead as a focal point. Other strands dangle down the side like a corkscrew. This model has a very mischievous expression which is in tune with the sassy nature of this 'do.

Prom and high school dances are such an important part of our teen lives. Trying to find the right style to match one's individual personality as a means of expression can be a challenging task. There is always the safe and easy path of going with the flow and following the current trend but if you want to stand out and have a little fun, then maybe take a look at some fun vintage styles that capture the charm of days gone by.

This first photo shows a young lady with auburn red hair that is styled in a smooth and straight fashion. She has pulled it back around to the base of her neck and positioned the ponytail in a loop that drapes down in a very 1940's kind of way. She has small flowers tucked behind her ear. Her dress is checkered and full of flowing lace which reminds me of the gunny sacks dresses of the 70's and 80's.

1940's prom

The one below is so lovely and feminine. Who can resist ringlets like Shirley Temple. Blond curls that are defined and keep their shape with strong hold hair products.

Blonde Ringlets

This next one is great if you have short hair. The wavy bob is so 1920's-ish and quite chic. She has very short bangs that are brushed up and over to the side. A flat iron that is rocked back and forth can help to get a look like this one.

Blonde Wavy Bob

This one is fun and flashy and has that 80's rocker feel. What a fun updo that looks like a mohawk without actually having one. The sides are slicked back and the top is left long and projects up like a rooster tail. Blonde is fun but any color would be a hit with this one.

1980's Updo

And if you want to step way back in time, how about a little Victorian prim and proper with a cream colored dress that buttons all the way up to the neck and has long sleeves. The hat with feathers is the finest detail.

Victorian Woman

Here is a great way to make a faux wavy bob by pulling one side of the locks back in an updo while leaving the bang area of the other side out and crimping it.
