Nicky Hilton is ready to party here with this great loose wavy hairstyle. Hair is parted off-center with a bang-less look. This style is reminiscent of retro days gone by when these styles is often seen back in the 70's. Her hair is straight at the crown and down to chin length which it then gives way to very soft and feminine waves. A flat iron can be used to straighten the locks and then a large barrel curling iron can help to achieve the big loose spirals.

This original photograph came from our archives and has a great example of a flapper girl 1920's hairstyle.

The Marcel wave was still very popular and in 1910  women began cutting their hair short as a new sign of freedom from their corsettes and the beginning of a new trend for young ladies entering into the workforce. The Louise Brooks bob was the most famous hairstyle of the 20's. Vintage looks are gaining popularity in today's fashions. It is fun to look at old photos for inspiration.

If you are a bride with medium length blonde hair (or any color) and are looking for a hairstyle idea to wear your locks down, take a look at this style. This young lady has a touch of Hollywood glamour with the use of jewels as accessories. Her veil is attached to the back of her head. Her bangs are arranged in an up and over swoop and off the forehead in a Marilyn Monroe style. Loose waves start at about eye level and are tucked behind the ears.

Here is a typical example of styles from the 50's. Hair was conservative for the most part and so were the fashions.

Mother and Daughter

These were the post war years and most women stayed home while the men worked to support the family. This mother and daughter have a short and wavy hairstyle that is parted on the side and coaxed into gentle waves. Wearing curlers to bed was common and then in the morning hair was brushed into place. Hairstyles were typically short enough to show the bottom of the ears. This was simple and easy to maintain.

Madonna is one celebrity who seems to like the 1940's Hollywood glamour and this hairstyle certainly shows that. Women of the 40's began following the stars for inspiration with fashion and hairdos. Feminine looking soft curls were a big hit.
