In the 1940s, women began the trend of looking to the Hollywood starlets for inspiration on hairstyles, and here we have a vintage hairstyle from that era. This gal is sporting cascading waves with bangs rolled back and secured probably with a decorative barrette at the top and back of her head. A popular length during this time was just past the shoulders.

Here is an elegant updo with a hint of vintage. Hair is pulled back from a side part and secured into 2 high pigtails that are rolled up and secured to look like two large buns. This style has a 1940s edge to it and a peacock feather is added for drama. The colors in the feather look wonderful with this model's olive skin tone, dark brown hair and eyes. The colors in her eye make-up were inspired by the shades in the feather such as the cool blue. This hairstyle would look lovely for any evening event.

A vintage 1940s wedding photo can be your inspiration for an old fashioned glamorous big day. The groom has some great Hollywood glamour going on with his longish wavy bangs combed back to mimic popular actors of that time. The bride has a rolled up updo with a tiara and veil. Her bangs are swooped back and tucked beneath her hair accessory and the sides are swirled around as well. This is a very hansom couple.

Here is a beautiful vintage updo with hat. One prominent curl comes down over the forehead and a netted tam hat pinned to one side emulates a typical 1940's hairstyle. Hair is directed around the finger and pinned into to place to get this glamorous look.

In the late 1940's, the victory roll hairstyle was wildly popular. This term was actually used for a fighter plane maneuver, but women adopted it for a fashion statement that celebrated the victory after WWII. This picture shows one woman's version of this hairdo. These were the days before blow-dryers, so it was necessary to come up with ways to style hair that worked for them back then. This is a picture of my mother who had very fine hair. She would put pin curls in her wet hair at night and sleep on them to be styled in the morning. Sections of hair were wound around fingertips and secured to the head with bobby pins. This gave the hair body and curl. Then, the next morning, the strands were brushed up the sides and pinned at the top in rolls. Some rolls were more defined than others.
