This photograph is straight out of the 70's and to be more specific: 1976. This hairstyle looks amazingly similar to those we see today with the long soft waves. Back in this decade, a middle part without bangs was typical. The early part of this era showed more straight styles, but waves began to make an appearance and usually were accomplished with hot rollers. Here we see how the strands are smooth down to about ear level and then the bends begin. This could be very fashonable by today's standards.

As the 80's passed to the end of that decade and turned toward the 90's, the big hair was still alive but it changed just a little bit. The classic 1980s puffy top 'do was about to be put to rest, but the fluff was not yet dead. The gradual transition from top heavy to bottom heavy was taking shape. This picture of a bunch of girlfriends from that era (pic was taken around 1989) shows a variety of hairstyles, but they have one thing in common: curly locks. It looks like there are a couple of examples of mall bangs here like the gal on the upper left and right. A popular early 90's look was the spiral perm bob as seen on the woman in the front row and right of center.

What a great example of a typical 60's family and their hairstyles and clothing. This picture was taken along side a pool in the backyard and shows a mom with her short softly curled hairdo with the top being ratted for the bouffant effect, the dad with his flat top crew cut and heavy rimmed sunglasses, and the kid with her typical pixie cut that was done by her mother and very chopped up.

In the 1950's women wore dresses most of the time and dressing up meant wearing a fashion hat, a bold beaded necklace, and red lip stick.

1950's Beautiful Woman

This vintage photo shows the real meaning of a lady. She is sitting in a chair with her hands folded in her lap wearing a blue dress with short blazer jacket that has a sailor type white collar. Her dress is knee length and her sleeves are 3/4 length. The neckline is round which follows the line of her big and bold white beaded necklace. Her brunette hair is worn short and with bangs that are short as well. Her white hat is quite fashionable and finishes off her very charming and feminine appeal.

Here is a great example of typical 80's style. First we have the bi-level, which was hot then, and is nothing more than big hair on top and long locks in the back. The sides are cut above the ears and the strands are directed upward with lots of strong hold hair spray ( the kind that does not allow your hair to move at all ) and then height is achieved with a curling iron and more shellac-like spray. Evidence of mall bangs can be seen with the first layer laying downward with the second brushed up and back. This hairstyle is shoulder length and of course was better for fine hair to make it look thicker. Big dangly earrings were in vogue then.
