This vintage photo of a couple from the 1920's shows a perfect example of the bob with finger waves.
A side part is where the side swept bangs begin and they are close to the scalp with defined waves. Bobby pins were usually used on wet hair at night to hold the shape for morning when they were removed. The length is just below the ears. The bouffant and pixie were winding down at the end of the 60s into the 70s. This style shows a touch of influence from that era as the top rear is back combed a bit to add slight height and the sides are short. She has a side part and the bangs are pulled to one side and held in place with a simple bobby pin. The length is just at the bottom of the ears. A touch of layering around the bottom allows the strands to fall into place. It's fun to look at old pics for hairstyle ideas.
