Here's a modern teen boy's hairstyle with a hint or two of retro. The bangs are long, heavy, and brushed to one side which is reminiscent of the 60's. The sides are cut at about mid ear while the back is longer but not down to the collar and this is considered a bi-level which is from the 80's. The textured look makes this haircut new and up to date.
Cadet hats are so cute and fashionable this season and this young lady is color coordinated for 4th of July. Her cap is blue, her sweatshirt is red, and her light blonde sedu hair can be considered the white.

This picture is from about 1973 and shows a pre-teen 12 year old girl in her 6th grade school photo. During this time period, which was early 70s, the hairstyle trend was that of no style basically. This look would work much better on someone with thicker hair rather than one with thin fine hair as above. A middle part with no bangs was very popular and taking a section on each side and tucking that behind the ears to allow the rest to fall right along side the face was right in style. We had no flat irons back then so the strands were just left to be a bit messy. Teenage girls did not wear much make up back then especially those in grade school or junior high (middle school). Right around the mid to late 70s, feathered hair became popular and this trend was popularized by Farrah Fawcett of Charlies Angels.

There is a strong 60's influence here with this young man's hairstyle. It features a full bang that is combed forward and over to one side. There are layers in graduated lengths on the side and they come down to about mid ear. He has a touch of wave to his strands that add just a bit of a bed head look which is popular right now.
