1950's Hair and Clothes

Here is a typical example of styles from the 50's. Hair was conservative for the most part and so were the fashions.

Mother and Daughter

These were the post war years and most women stayed home while the men worked to support the family. This mother and daughter have a short and wavy hairstyle that is parted on the side and coaxed into gentle waves. Wearing curlers to bed was common and then in the morning hair was brushed into place. Hairstyles were typically short enough to show the bottom of the ears. This was simple and easy to maintain.

Short and Curly Glamour Hairdo

Now here is some classic retro style. This woman is sporting a 60's style bouffant in the early 70's. Some women at the turn of this decade were still liking the hairstyles of the previous one. Lisa Rinna is sporting some real celebrity style with her beautiful short layered hairstyle. She always looks stunning with this modern day shag that gets its roots from the 70s when this hairdo was introduced by popular TV stars of that time. She has shorter layers around the crown to add lift and fullness to this very sexy "do." The real retro version of the shag was hour-glass shaped, but today's interpretations include a tousled appearance to make it fun and sassy. Using a round brush and concentrating heat to the roots while lifting at the same time helps to achieve this style. Using a root lifter hair product cannot hurt. This would be applied to hair prior to styling. The bottom strands are flipped outward while drying and a shot of cold air helps the final set. What a great look for just about any occasion from casual to formal.

She is sporting a new short hairstyle that incorporates the ever so popular side swept bang and this style is very sleek and perfect for a formal evening event. She has the sides tucked behind her ears to show off her lovely features and her big hoop earrings. This cut is versatile as the sides could be kept straight down with a slight bend out and upward at the bottom for a variation. The ends could be razor cut for extra texture by the hairstylist.
