1920s photograph

The Marcel wave was still very popular and in 1910  women began cutting their hair short as a new sign of freedom from their corsettes and the beginning of a new trend for young ladies entering into the workforce. The Louise Brooks bob was the most famous hairstyle of the 20's. Vintage looks are gaining popularity in today's fashions. It is fun to look at old photos for inspiration.

What a sleek and sexy bob hairstyle we see here on Jenny McCarthy. This picture of her was taken at the 5th Anniversary of the Gentlemen's Club on 12/13/2007. This style is sure to be hot for 2008 and is easy care and fun. This haircut is cut shorter in the back (inverted) which helps to give fullness around the crown. Her bangs are brushed to the side here to give the appearance of a bang-less style, but one could also style it with the bangs for a variation. There are some graduated layers around the bottom to also add some bounce. This is a very straight hairstyle with the sides at the front just brushing past the jawline. A very light shade of blonde looks great on her and with her black dress. For another great bob you may also want to check out Ellen Barkin.

Ashlee Simpson looks spunky and glamorous with this curly bob hairstyle. This is a cute short hairdo for her that is softly feminine with big loose curls that start at eye level and finish at the chin. Her long bangs are pulled to the side and held in place with a bobby pin to show off her forehead and give a bang-less look. The back is cut slightly shorter to give more fullness around the bottom and this type of bob is referred to as an inverted type. This style is vintage in nature and follows the trend that was popular in the 40's when women looked to Hollywood stars for inspiration. Ashlee's lovely blonde locks and long lashes shout glamour all the way.

Paris Hilton has cut her locks super short as we see here in this picture of her that was taken at the 16th Annual amfAR Rocks Benefit on 9/24/2007. She is still sporting her very light golden blonde hair color. The length is at the chin and she has combed the sides (both sides) behind her ears for a cropped appearance. Her bangs are cut on the long side and with a side part they are brushed to the side to just skim over the top of the eye. The bangs come forward at the part and down over the forehead.

Here is a photograph of a young woman in the early part of the 20th century.

1920s Woman with Bob

The 1920's were a time of transformation for females and hairstyles were part of this. Prior to this time, women generally wore their hair long. The craze to cut their hair into short bobs swept the country and abroad. The Marcel wave was very popular and this gal has one big wave in the front while the sides appear to be twisted into small curls at about ear length. She may actually have longer hair but pinned it up to give the look of short hair in a faux bob. The strands on top are combed forward and swooped around to form bangs on the forehead. She probably has a bun in the back. This was one way to get a short hairstyle without cutting the hair. This may have been a good option for those who wanted the option for long hairstyles as well.
