The 80's were IT and here's a great example of a ponytail that really has the spirit of this era as this photo was taken in about 1987.
This gal was a hairstylist so she was certainly up on the latest fashion trends of this time. A perm primed the locks for the curly height on top and then a curling iron could be used to shape and define. Lots of gel and TRI hairspray was used to set everything in place to the point where the strands would not move. A thin layer of bang was combed forward while the rest were directed up and back. A black bow holds the low ponytail in place. Let's not forget the bright blue blouse with appliqued white designs and matching earrings and of course the shoulder pads.
