Men in the 1940's usually wore their hair on the long side and all slicked back. This look was considered to be Hollywood glamorous for men. Bangs were actually grown out long to allow them to be able to style them appropriately for this hairstyle. Men back then visited the barber for their haircut needs and no doubt paid very little compared to what we pay today at the salon.
