Hairstyles in the 40's were very feminine for women. Soft curls were common and hair was usually styled away from the face so as to show off a woman's facial features. Bright red lipstick for the lips was in vogue.

Men considered themselves masculine with a haircut that could be slicked back with the ears showing.
