With all the interest in retro hairstyles from past decades, the feathered look from the 70s is still sought after and here is a good example in this graduation picture from 1977. This teen girl has medium brown long hair that is curled back around the front from the bangs down to the ends. This was generally accomplished with a curling iron held vertically and curling sections toward the back after blowing drying. A popular actress like Vanessa Marcil is one to watch for beautiful hairstyles. She has lovely healthy looking locks and here she is shown with half straight and half loose curls that cascade over her shoulders and down her back. She has a middle part with a little zig zag that looks like a bit of a signature feature and is bang-less. The top is blown out smooth and it looks shiny as the caramel highlights catch the light. The spirals can be created with the use of a curling iron held vertically with sections wound around it several times.

Jennifer Aniston has so many great hairstyles and this one is just fun and easy going with sun and salt water being the inspiration as we can consider this one to be beachy waves. This look would be easy to create with a diffuser added to the blow dryer and a product like Bumble and Bumble South Beach Spray and light scrunching while drying.

If you love Paris Hilton and her hairstyles, you must see her with white hat and hair accessories as we see her here in this picture taken at her "Can Can" Perfume Photocall at Selfridges in London on May 15th 2008. Here is a funny 70s picture of a pre-teen sporting a typical hairstyle for that time as well as an example of some of the fashions for that time. A long granny style skirt that looks like a bedspread and the top looks like something from the 1800's with puffy short sleeves and gathered round neck. Obviously shoes were an after thought as blue and red tennis shoes are hardly appropriate but comfortable. This 12 year old's hair is long and straight and parted on the side with a clip holding the bangs over to the side. Using clips was very popular in the early 1970s to hold the hair out of the eyes as no-style hairstyles were cool during this time. Notice the furnishings like the television on the right (that had no remote as children were the channel changers) and the early American decor. The carpet and curtains were a brownish gold color.

The gal in the middle is sporting the left over 60s bouffant while the other two just have short no care hair. Skirts were popular in primary colors and patterns such as geometric. As the 80's passed to the end of that decade and turned toward the 90's, the big hair was still alive but it changed just a little bit. The classic 1980s puffy top 'do was about to be put to rest, but the fluff was not yet dead. The gradual transition from top heavy to bottom heavy was taking shape. This picture of a bunch of girlfriends from that era (pic was taken around 1989) shows a variety of hairstyles, but they have one thing in common: curly locks. It looks like there are a couple of examples of mall bangs here like the gal on the upper left and right. A popular early 90's look was the spiral perm bob as seen on the woman in the front row and right of center.

This picture was taken along side a pool in the backyard and shows a mom with her short softly curled hairdo with the top being ratted for the bouffant effect, the dad with his flat top crew cut and heavy rimmed sunglasses, and the kid with her typical pixie cut that was done by her mother and very chopped up.

We love the care-free look of this fun and feminine hairdo. To get this style for yourself, smooth out the top layers while blow-drying with a paddle brush and then use a diffuser while scrunching and spiraling with fingers on the lower half. A narrow flat iron can be used to touch up the waves by holding it vertically and winding sections around it in a spiral motion. A defining hair product on palms can be used to help with the styling once the strands are dry. Do not brush through locks but rather use fingers to prevent a frizzy appearance.
