Pixie

The thing that makes this one so fun and sexy is the playful fact that there is no defined part but rather the bangs are directed forward from the crown. This also makes the tresses look thicker and fuller. The sides are brushed back behind the ears and the back is short hitting just above the collar. Her hair color is medium brown with honey highlights and the chunkiness of these effects adds depth.

This photo of a 1940's woman shows us a nice example of an updo perfect for short hair and it has an attractive vintage appeal.

Vintage Shag

The top is randomly curled which makes the bangs look super short and full of volume. The sides are slicked back with pomade and attached in the back with bobby pins. There is just a fringe of hair on the neck that can be seen from the front. She is wearing a satin black dress with gathered sleeves. Her nails are neatly polished.

Full of retro charm, this color photo shows the hairstyles, clothes, and furniture that was popular during this post WWII decade.

1950's Couple

The man is wearing a suit and tie and has slicked back short dark hair while the woman is dressed in a party gown. Her dress has netted fabric in layers that is floor length and the skirt portion is full. Her hairstyle is short and curly and very typical of this era. Women traded their longer glam curls for shorter and more conservative locks in the 50's. These two are sitting on a couch ready to attend a wedding. The coffee table is full on contemporary.

This is a darling cut that is super straight and layered. The back is longer and comes down to the collar while the sides shorter and cut in graduated layers.

Katherine McPhee

She has a medium brown shade and an off center part with the bangs being pushed over to one side. This one is similar to a shag in that there is a bit more fullness around the sides and just a fringe in the that can be seen in the rear. What a great choice for summer fun and super easy to take care of especially when it's hot outside.

Women in the 1950's wore conservative dresses and skirts, fairly short and curly hair, and pumps to work.

All of these women have short brunette hair. The sides are kept shorter and the ears are exposed.  The woman on the left has a straight style in a pixie cut. Her bangs are short and full. Two women are wearing black framed cat eye glasses. Their dresses are plain and simple for the most part except for the one on the right side and she has a patterned print. The length of their dresses is just past the knee. Pumps with heels were standard. The gentleman who is sitting on the left is wearing a suit and bow tie.
