What a darling little girl here in this black and white photo that looks to be a primary school portrait.

1940's primary school portrait

She has soft curls that were most likely created with pin curls placed on damp hair and then allowed to dry at which point they were gently brushed out. She has a side part and with the use of bobby pins, the strands are gathered into place. On one side the curls are placed above the ear and on the other side they are pulled over and centered behind a darling plastic bow clip which was quite popular with the feminine little girls. This is a short style that is cut at collar length in the back and on the sides the bottom of the ears are showing just a touch. She has medium brown locks to match her eyes. She has a shy looking smile.

Here is a charming hairstyle and photo straight from the 1950's showing a ten year old girl holding a baby.

Girl Holding Baby

This lovely young lady has her hair pulled back into a ponytail and her bangs are cut very short and straight across the forehead. They are deep set with a defined part in the shape of a V. They are combed straight and forward. This was very typical for this time period for girls. Her ponytail is probably placed in the middle at the back of the head. Her hair color is dark brown.

This seven year old grade school girl from the 1950's has a charming pixie cut with Bettie Page bangs.

1950s Girl

This young gal has naturally wavy and thick hair. The length is short and hits just below the ears. Her bangs are so neatly and perfectly cut into an arch, that one would realize that she obviously went to visit the hairdresser to get them shaped. After all, this was a time when many moms did the trimming at home. The sides are curled under but kind of have a mind of their own. She is wearing an eyelet dress that has puff sleeves.

It's so fun to look at these old photographs. It looks like a brother and sister are standing outside in front of a forest posing for this shot.

1940's Kids

The girl is wearing tattered clothes. These are probably considered play clothes. Her jeans have holes at the knees. She has a simple ponytail to make playing easier and her bangs are chopped straight across and no doubt her mom cut her hair. The sides of her locks are sticking straight out which matches her messy look. Her coat is buttoned with the buttons going into the wrong holes. Did you ever do that as a kid?
