Jamie Carson could step off the set of the Partridge Family or the Laugh In Tv show from the late 60s or early 70s.

This is very funny and what is really humorous is that fashions just keep cycling around. These are some cool styles:
Circa 1974
Mom and dad look like typical parents but check out the teenagers. The girl has long hair that is parted in the middle and is wavy toward the bottom. Her glasses are narrow and wide with dark frames and she is wearing swabbies (sailor pants). These pants wear all the rage back then in blue or white and had buttons all the way up the front. They had patch style pockets on the front and back and flair legs. The boys had long bangs that were brushed forward and sometimes to the side. Take a look at the woman at the top of the stairs with her red pants and psychedelic tunic top. Woman's hand bags were an after thought, as they were not much of a priority then as far a fashion statement.

What a great picture of graduation day back in the 1970's.
1978 Graduation / HairStyleTwist
Here is a great example of fashions back in the 70's as we see a family celebrating graduation day in retro style. This teenage boy has the typical feathered bangs showing with his cap and gown on. We can also see some other clothes ideas for back in the day and notice the macrame plant hanger in the background.

If you cannot imagine being able to get your own hair to do this, consider a big Afro wig like this one. This is true 70's retro style.

Wondering what kind of short hairstyles high school girls wore in the 1970's?
This gal has wavy locks that are cut in a layered fashion to help prevent too much fullness at the sides. The length is mid neck with little fringes at the ends which was typical of the shag. Variations of this style were popular during the early part of this decade. The bangs are side swept and feathered.

She's got her peace sign displayed on her tank top and her very straight and fine strands seem to work with this style. The sides are pulled back and a thin braid is added for interest on both sides.

The 1960s and 70s were a time when young people protested war and fought for peace and love and they did so with flowers in their hair as they wore tie dye and beads. This young woman has long kinky curls and a daisy tucked behind one ear (daisies are a retro flower). She has tiny rectanglur sunglasses, a brightly color splashed tank top, and is flashing the peace sign.

Here's a picture of a teacher from the 1960s with a big bouffant flip. This woman has plenty of height on the top of her head as it looks as though there are at least 8 inches of ratted curls there. This was a popular hairstyle during this time period and celebrities like That Girl had something very similar.

With all the interest in retro hairstyles from past decades, the feathered look from the 70s is still sought after and here is a good example in this graduation picture from 1977. This teen girl has medium brown long hair that is curled back around the front from the bangs down to the ends. This was generally accomplished with a curling iron held vertically and curling sections toward the back after blowing drying. There have been many celebrity woman who have opted for this look and here is a modern example.

Back in the day, boys wore their hair much longer than their fathers would have liked. This picture is from the 70s, probably about 1976 and shows a man standing next to his two sons who are sporting long locks down past their ears and bangs. One guy has an embroidered jean shirt and since styles seem to keep rolling back around, I wonder if we will start seeing these again; and it is tucked in. We already see the younger generations copying the hairstyle on the left.

Here is a great example of a bride and her bridesmaids from the 1970s. Back then women did a lot of sewing to save money and each of these girls sewed their own dresses after the bride sprung for the fabric which is a powder blue color with multi colored daisies. The flowers are yellow along with the ribbons and each girl in the wedding party is also sporting one flower in the hair except for the bride who is wearing a veil. All four have their locks worn down and long and wavy.

If you have naturally curly hair, consider letting your locks do their natural thing and sport a retro Afro for fun. This 70s inspired fashion statement is back in vogue, so why not go for it. This guy has some facial hair including a bit of a goatee to top off his look. Back in the day, men and women of all races opted for this easy care hair.

Looking for a way to wear a forehead scarf in retro fashion? This woman is sporting a simple black silk scarf over the top of her head that comes down toward her eyes and it has the functional purpose of holding the hair away from the face and out of the eyes. Her blonde locks are full of casual messy curls that can be created with the use of a diffuser and curl enhancing products. The key is to scrunch with fingers while blow-drying. Her smock type shirt is inspired by 70s colors with bursts of yellow, orange, teal, and olive green. This certainly has the feel of the hippie flower child experience.

Here is a cute hippie look for girls that incorporates many great things from the 70s/80s: tie dye look, headband, and long curls. Kinky long red locks are held back out of this woman's eyes with the colorful forehead band which could be nothing more than a fashion scarf placed above the eyebrows and tied in back under the hair. The turquoise blue color of her shirt has what looks like paint splashes that resembles the old fashioned tie dye and it's a smash hit with her mane.

This picture is from about 1973 and shows a pre-teen 12 year old girl in her 6th grade school photo. During this time period, which was early 70s, the hairstyle trend was that of no style basically. This look would work much better on someone with thicker hair rather than one with thin fine hair as above. A middle part with no bangs was very popular and taking a section on each side and tucking that behind the ears to allow the rest to fall right along side the face was right in style. We had no flat irons back then so the strands were just left to be a bit messy. Teenage girls did not wear much make up back then especially those in grade school or junior high (middle school). Right around the mid to late 70s, feathered hair became popular and this trend was popularized by Farrah Fawcett of Charlies Angels.

If you are looking for some summer hair and fashion ideas, then take a look at Heidi Montag here in this picture taken at the 19th Annual "A Time for Heroes" Celebrity Carnival. Scarves are hot this season and she is sporting a very colorful one that is draped across her shoulders and is in shades of blues and greens. She is wearing white shorts and sandals. Her purse is a brightly colored near teal. Her blonde hair is straight and parted off center. This is a retro inspired outfit and hairstyle.

Here is a funny 70s picture of a pre-teen sporting a typical hairstyle for that time as well as an example of some of the fashions for that time. A long granny style skirt that looks like a bedspread and the top looks like something from the 1800's with puffy short sleeves and gathered round neck. Obviously shoes were an after thought as blue and red tennis shoes are hardly appropriate but comfortable. This 12 year old's hair is long and straight and parted on the side with a clip holding the bangs over to the side. Using clips was very popular in the early 1970s to hold the hair out of the eyes as no-style hairstyles were cool during this time. Notice the furnishings like the television on the right (that had no remote as children were the channel changers) and the early American decor. The carpet and curtains were a brownish gold color.

I remember the holidays in the early 70s when the adults were still stuck in the 60s like we see here with the bouffant. The adults are usually a decade or so behind on the current styles, but stick around because the styles always come around again with a few new twists. All different types of retro are in today.

Women golfers in the early 70s show the hairstyles that older ladies wore during this time period and the fashions. The gal in the middle is sporting the left over 60s bouffant while the other two just have short no care hair. Skirts were popular in primary colors and patterns such as geometric. Purses were not much of a fashion statement as we can see, but those Mr. Magoo big sunglasses were very popular.

This photo from 1972 shows the hair and fashions that one might see at a family Christmas gathering. The pre-teen on the left has a haircut that was called a fluorantine. It was a variation of the shag but a little different. It was layered, had bangs, and was about shoulder length or just past. This was a time when the long, straight, and no-style hair was the most popular but some just did not look that great in that 'do. The younger girl has a simple bob. The older woman in the doorway is sporting the bouffant which was on its way out but some preferred to hang onto to this look for awhile longer.

Hippies were well known in the 60s and 70s. They were usually those in the younger generation (teens and 20 something year olds) who wanted to set themselves apart from the conservative folks. They did this by growing their hair long and often in a no-style fashion. Usually hair was parted in the middle and bang-less. During this time period, long side burns were the thing for men. Headbands were popular and served to keep the sweat out of the eyes, but actually they were merely a fashion statement. Aviator sunglasses along with tie-dye including bright colors finish off the look.

This photograph is straight out of the 70's and to be more specific: 1976. This hairstyle looks amazingly similar to those we see today with the long soft waves. Back in this decade, a middle part without bangs was typical. The early part of this era showed more straight styles, but waves began to make an appearance and usually were accomplished with hot rollers. Here we see how the strands are smooth down to about ear level and then the bends begin. This could be very fashonable by today's standards.

Young teen boys like to wear their hair a little longer these days and this one here is no different. A full bang and sides cut about mid ear with the back coming down the neck makes this style fit right in with today's look for teenagers. His wavy hair is left to do its natural thing which is quite easy in deed. This hairstyle gets its roots from days gone by as we see here in this photo below of a teenage boy from the late 70s.
